The Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria at their 46th AGM dinner and award night honoured the Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Prof. D.E. Obaseki with an award for his “Contribution to the development of Ophthalmology and to reducing vision impairment and blindness in Nigeria“. The event which took place at the Best Western Homeville hotel Benin city had in attendance the crème de la crème of the Ophthalmology specialty in Nigeria. This is yet another feather to the CMD’s cap. We say congratulations to a CMD like no other!!


This is to inform prospective students of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) School of Post Basic Nursing Studies that the earlier scheduled entrance examination/interview which ought to hold between 22nd to 25th August, 2022 as initially indicated in the advertisement has been postponed.

This postponement has become necessary due to some unforeseen circumstances.

The examination / interview will now hold from 19th to 23rd September, 2022 at 8.00 a.m. each day, in the following order:

1. Perioperative Nursing Programme: Monday, 19th September, 2022

2. Accident & Emergency Nursing Programme: Tuesday, 20th September, 2022

3. Paediatric Nursing Programme: Wednesday, 21st September, 2022

4. Ophthalmic Nursing Programme: Thursday, 22nd September, 2022

Meanwhile, interested students can take advantage of the postponement to apply as the sales of form is still on.



Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for vacant Internship positions in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, in the following areas:

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must possess the necessary academic qualifications (including a University Degree in their chosen specialties) and must have provisional registration with their respective Regulatory Professional Bodies. DUTIES: Successful candidates would be expected to perform the duties corresponding to the positions for which they have been considered and such other duties that may be assigned to them from time to time by the Hospital Management through its authorized officers. METHOD OF APPLICATION: Interested candidates should visit the Hospital’s website at www.ubth.org to download the application form⇓. Duly completed forms should be accompanied with relevant credentials (including academic certificates, birth certificates/sworn affidavit of age declaration, professional license, etc.) and submitted at the Human Resources Department not later than Six (6) weeks from the date of this publication.


In commemoration of the 2022 World Hand Hygiene Day, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City joined the rest of the world in celebrating the day with the theme Healthcare Quality and Safety Climate or Culture that Values Hand Hygiene and Infection Prevention and Control. The Chief Medical Director, Prof D.E Obaseki in his opening remark harped on the importance of hand hygiene. He noted that most infections are passed on from person to person through our hands. In other to break the chain of infection, it is very important to always wash our hands, he stated.


Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is described as presence of symptoms and signs of kidney disease lasting more than 3 months. The symptoms include
  1. Generalised body weakness/chronic fatigue
  2. Body swelling.
  3. Reduced urinary output.
  4. Recurrent vomiting.

The College of Nursing, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, formerly School of Nursing, University of Benin Teaching Hospital wishes to inform all intending applicants and the general public that admission into the College is now through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

This is due to the recent upgrade of our Institution to National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) awarding institution by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which entitles our graduands to be called up for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

All intending applicants should therefore endeavour to enroll in the ongoing UTME registration exercise to be eligible to apply for the Post UTME that will come up later in the year.
