The University of Benin Teaching Hospital Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society (UBTH SMPCS) has
been recognised and won multiple awards organised by the the Cooperative Rating and Award Society of
Nigeria, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abuja.


Mr Ephraim Ibadin is a Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist with a passion for his job. He is hard working and gladly takes on additional responsibilities as long as they contribute to the smooth running of the Medical Microbiology laboratory.


The Nigerian Optometric Association yesterday at their 45th National Conference and Vision Expo Award and Dinner Night, presented the Chief Medical Director, UBTH Prof. D.E. Obaseki, with a National Commendation award for His outstanding contributions to the development of Optometry and Health Care.


Dr. Ndubuisi Mokogwu is a Consultant Public Health Physician in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine and is the current Head of the Data Intelligence and Innovation Unit (formerly known as the Special Statistics Unit) as well as the Deputy Coordinator of the NHIS Unit.

Prof (Mrs) N.P. Edomwonyi is a Consultant Anaesthetist in the department of Anaesthesia. She is a mother, a pillar and a rallying point in the department. Her punctuality and dedication to duty is phenomenal.


We are pleased to announce that the 2022-2025 Strategic Development Plan for the hospital has been finalized. This document is a continuation of the 2017-2021 Strategic Reform Plan.


Dr. Chizoba Barbara Wonodi, MBBS, MPH, DrPH Faculty Member John Hopkins

The Management of UBTH played host to Dr. Chizoba Barbara Wonodi, MBBS, MPH, DrPH Faculty member John Hopkins School of Public Health and Country Director, International Vaccine Access Centre (IVAC). The parley focused on how UBTH can contribute to vaccine access and uptake in Nigeria and beyond, among other issues. A couple of presentations were made and the CMD, Prof D. E. Obaseki, assured her of UBTH’s s readiness to commit more effort and resources to issues of immunization and vaccination in Nigeria.

The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital recently organized a one day retreat for the newly appointed Clinical Heads of Department tagged “Leadership in Healthcare Training Programme for Heads of Department” held in the Hospital’s  Boardroom. The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki declared it open.

The programme was a combined physical and virtual meeting and also involved over 100 Heads of Department and staff who joined via the Zoom platform.

The team of seasoned research persons had interactive sessions with the attendees to the appreciation of all.
