When the administration of Prof. D.E. Obaseki came into office some years back, it was deliberate and purposeful as it immediately hit the ground running. One of the first achievements of the young administration was to commission a strategic plan document which was meant to be a guide for attainment of set objectives; Staff welfare being a critical objective of the administration.
Another milestone was the reengineering of the Mission statement of the Hospital. Thus, We Value Life, We Care, We Respect People and We Strive for Excellence became a mantra as a new mission statement was born. Fast forward seven years and the greatest beneficiaries of all these innovations in administration is the workers in UBTH.
In this community, the UBTHSMCS is a major stakeholder in the life of the people and, supporting the activities of the society is a deliberate policy thrust of the Obaseki led administration. The activities of the society albeit, its health has a direct bearing on the welfare of staff of the Hospital.
Only recently, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. D.E. Obaseki was awarded “The Most Friendly Management Staff of Cooperatives 2024”. This award came in recognition of the support UBTH Management has been giving to the Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society. This has propelled it to winning several awards and becoming the number one Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Nigeria.
Between 2018 till now, this society has blazed the trail in Cooperative business in Nigeria at both National and State levels amassing several awards. Some of these include –
1: Most Outstanding Cooperative Society in Nigeria in Year 2022.
2: Most Well Managed Society, 2022
3: The “Exemplary Leadership Award of Excellence for Cooperative Management and Development” awarded to the President of the Society Mr. Osas Ojo,
(The above awards were conferred by the Cooperative Rating and Award Society of Nigeria, in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abuja).
4: Best Cooperative Society in Edo South (awarded by the Ministry of Business Trade and Cooperatives, Edo State)
All of the above, is to celebrate a culture of excellence in leadership which has become ingrained in the psyche of the Management and staff of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
