Dental: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery



The department was established for the training of undergraduates and Postgraduate students (resident doctors) for a productive career in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Mission statement: To deliver high-quality healthcare services in line with international best practices through excellence in clinical care, academic and biomedical research.
At the moment there are seven dental chairs and two theatre suites weekly in addition to the accident and emergency coverage. The theater suites and clinic area are well air-conditioned to create environment conducive to teaching and clinical/surgical activities.

Monday to Friday (9:00 am to 12:00 pm)

Other Information:

The department runs daily (Monday-Friday) clinical services (except public holidays) alongside minor oral surgical procedures, including but not limited to routine extractions, surgical extractions, lip repairs, incisional biopsies, excisional biopsies, closed reduction of mandibular fractures, minor to moderate suturing etc. and twice weekly major surgical procedures in the theater suites to address maxillofacial trauma, pathologies, congenital anomalies etc.

The current Head of Department is Professor O.N Obuekwe, and there are six specialists in attendance.
