In furtherance of containment of Lassa Fever, the Infection Control Committee of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital has remained relentless in her campaign awareness and sensitization of UBTH staff with regards to Lassa Fever, the latest being the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.
The sensitization lecture was aimed at increasing the Medical practitioner’s suspicion index on Lassa Fever as well as provide a clear guidance on management of pregnant women with Lassa Fever.
Some of the guidelines given include ensuring routine screening for Lassa Fever in all febrile pregnant women, who have been unresponsive to anti-malaria drugs and antibiotic treatments; pregnant women with Lassa Fever must be transferred to a designated Lassa Fever treatment center where they will be cared for by a multidisciplinary team of Obstetricians, Virologists, Anaesthetists, Neonatologists etc to optimize clinical management… just to mention a few.
