Environmental Health Unit UBTH Celebrates World Environmental Day

Yearly, the 5th of June is set aside by the United Nations to commemorate the World Environment Day in order to increase awareness about the environment and advocate ways to protect it.
This year 2023, the theme is “𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” with the hashtag #BeatthePlasticPollution, and its focus is to raise awareness of the increasing threat of plastic pollution and workable solutions.
Activities to commemorate the 2023 World Environment Day by the UBTH Environmental Health Unit involved taking the campaign to two secondary schools; the University of Benin Demonstration Secondary School and the UBTH Group of Schools (Secondary).

The idea is to “catch them young” and engender in them the love to keep the environment safe; for future use through the propagation of safe plastic disposal practices as they are the present and future of all our efforts to protect our environment.

This is especially important as we strive for a sustainable environment that aims at supporting life on earth at present without jeopardizing the earth in the future!
Coincidentally, as UBTH marks 50 years of service to humanity, this year 2023, the United Nations also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the World Environment Day.
Hearty congratulations and Happy World

Environment Day to us all.
