The General Manager, Heineken Africa Foundation (HAF) Suzanne Giele and a board member of the HAF George de Gooijer who are in Nigeria on a working visit were at the University of Benin Teaching hospital, Benin city earlier today, 1st June, 2022.

The visit afforded the GM HAF opportunity to see how well the equipment donated to UBTH through a grant she got from them last year is being utilized.

In her address, Suzanne Giele said she was delighted to see that the grant have been properly utilized. She also expressed delight at the impact the equipment are making in improving the chances of survival of the neonates in the ward. Worthy of mention is also the commendation she gave to the team working in the neonatal ward for their level of commitment.

Prof. D. E. Obaseki expressed gratitude to the HAF for the grant which is making so much impact already. He assured the foundation of adequate maintenance of the equipment for sustainability. He thereafter took the visiting GM on a guided tour of the neonatal ward which happens to be the first in Nigeria. There was presentation of gifts to the GM and the board member who accompanied her.







The Hon. Commissioner for Health Edo State, Prof Obehi Akoria, the HOD Child Health Dr. N. Iduoriyekemwen as well as other eminent personalities were present at the meeting which ended with a lunch at the UBTH Golf Club house.

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital was taken over by the Federal Government on April 1st, 1975 as the fifth teaching hospital coming after Ibadan Teaching Hospital and Lagos Teaching Hospital.
