The newly elected Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Chapter, on Wednesday 7th January, 2026 paid a courtesy visit to the hospital management,
Speaking during the visit, the MDCAN Chairman, Dr. Benson Okwara, congratulated the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, on her appointment and historic emergence as the first female CMD of UBTH. He noted that since her assumption of office, the hospital has recorded notable milestones and achievements. Dr. Okwara commended the CMD for her commitment to staff welfare and appreciated her sponsorship of the recent MDCAN (BGN) Dinner, describing it as a reflection of inclusive and supportive leadership.
Also speaking, the immediate past Chairman of MDCAN, Prof. Ehigha Enabudoso, thanked the CMD for the motherly role she continues to play both within UBTH and MDCAN. As a highlight of the visit, Prof. Enabudoso presented a copy of his newly published book titled “Leading with Integrity” to the CMD, explaining that the book captures and summarizes his stewardship and leadership experiences while in office.
In her response, Prof. Ize-Iyamu expressed appreciation to the leadership of MDCAN for their cooperation and support for hospital management in time past. She congratulated members of the newly elected EXCO on their victory and urged them to discharge their duties in a manner that would further project UBTH as the best hospital in the country. The CMD wished the new MDCAN leadership a successful, peaceful, and impactful tenure.
Other members of the EXCO present during the visit included Dr. Lucy Eriba (Vice Chairman), Dr. Igunma Jeremiah (Secretary), and Dr. Adewole Afolabi (Financial Secretary).
