As part of the Honourable minister’s visit to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Monday 9th, March 2020, was the launching of the Elder Friendly Hospitals Initiative, meant to address the personal care and environmental needs of the older persons, ensuring that amenities in facilities are tailored to the peculiar needs of the older persons.
The launch also coincided with the ongoing International Training of Trainers in geriatrics at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in collaboration with National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) & Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI).
At the launch, The Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki said the hospital is taking the lead in providing locally relevant and affordable training of international standard to multi-disciplinary professionals drawn from the three levels of the health sector (primary, secondary, tertiary) and that Geriatrics services in the hospital has impacted greatly on the health of older persons.
