The Palace of the Omo’noba n’edo Uku Akpolokpolor earlier today hosted the Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and members of the UBTH@50 Central Working Committee.
Addressing His Royal Majesty during the visit, Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. D.E. Obaseki thanked the Oba for the honour of receiving the team from UBTH. He eulogized the monarch for the innovations in leadership and commitment to the peace and development of the Benin Kingdom.
The CMD intimated His Royal Majesty of the upcoming golden jubilee anniversary of the hospital. He gave a rundown of the historic and meteoric rise of the hospital from its status at commissioning on 12th May, 1973 to what it has become today – a citadel of excellence in healthcare. He highlighted some of the specialised services rendered in the hospital to include laparoscopy and transphenoidal surgery among others.
He said himself and members of the Central Working Committee were in the palace to seek royal blessings and prayers for a successful anniversary celebration come 12th May, 2023.
The Omo’noba in his response commended the CMD for his efforts so far despite the brain drain currently being experienced nationwide. He thereafter gave his royal blessings and prayed for a successful anniversary celebrations.
