The current COVID-19 pandemic which is now in Nigeria is steadily on the rise. To combat this spread and enable us quickly mobilize trained human resources, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital management as part of her already outlined efforts to address the challenge organised a training for the Rapid Response Team (RRT) on COVID-19 on Tuesday 24th March, 2020 at Oba Akenzua Hall.
In attendance at this training was the CMAC, Prof Omuemu, DCMACS, Profs Akoria and Adeleye, DDNS Asamah, Prof (Mrs) Sadoh, Dr Nwaneri (Director Institure of Child Health) and Dr Eki Udoko.

A total of 20 doctors, 17 nurses, 33 Paramedics, and one Lab scientist and environmental health officer each; drafted from various departments in the hospital were trained as part of the hospitals preparedness response.

Facilitators included Prof Akoria, Prof Adeleye, Dr Okwara, Dr Osaigbovo, Dr Obarisiagbon, Dr Ogboghodo and ADNS Uwugiaren.

The trainings covered:
– An overview of COVID-19
– Case identification of COVID-19
– Case Management of COVID-19
– Staff Risk Assessment
– Standard Precautions
– Practical demonstration session on donning and doffing PPE

Certificates were presented to participants at the end of the training.

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital was taken over by the Federal Government on April 1st, 1975 as the fifth teaching hospital coming after Ibadan Teaching Hospital and Lagos Teaching Hospital.
