On July 25th, 2024, 35 healthcare professionals from various wards at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital gathered for a comprehensive training session on “Helping Babies Breathe and Essential Care for Every Baby”. This first-of-its-kind training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to ensure all newborns breathe within the golden minute of life and receive essential care to prevent diseases, support breastfeeding, and identify danger signs for prompt referral.
The training was conducted by six experienced facilitators from the Neonatal Division of UBTH, who shared their expertise through theoretical knowledge and hands-on skill acquisition. Participants engaged in practical exercises, simulated scenarios, and interactive sessions to reinforce their learning.
The outcomes were remarkable! Participants expressed increased confidence in providing immediate and essential care for newborns.
The hands-on practice sessions were particularly valued, allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge in a controlled environment.
This training marks a significant step towards ensuring all babies born at UBTH receive the best possible start to life. We extend our gratitude to the facilitators, department heads, and hospital management for their support and commitment to improving neonatal care.
Let’s continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our newborns!
