The management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, through its Infection Prevention and Control Committee in collaboration with Pfizer today 8/6/022, held a one-day workshop on case management of Monkeypox, Integrated Disease Surveillance, and Response activities as well as Standard precautions. This training was necessitated by the rise in Monkeypox cases in Nigeria.
The goal of the training was to equip health care workers in UBTH with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to identify, institute surveillance, and adequately manage suspected Monkeypox cases. Continuing medical education on standard precautions was also incorporated into the workshop as a part of the routine training on standard precautions carried out by the committee.
The Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki in his opening remarks highlighted the need for HCWs to employ scientific, practical and evidence based reasoning in the management of diseases, which will be driven by adequate information thus the need for the workshop.


Several presentations were made during the workshop which included;
1. Case management of Monkey pox by Dr. Benson Okwara
2. Standard precautions: The Master key for the prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections by Dr. Esohe Ogboghodo and Dr. Igunma
3. Surveillance Activities in UBTH by Dr. Chinyere Nwaogwugwu and Dr. Ewere Ehinze
4. Meronem and Taksit by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals representatives
A total of 192 health care workers and students participated in the workshop.
