UBTH PRIORITIZES ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE OKE FOUNDATION PROVIDES TIMELY SUPPORT AMID RISING COSTS

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering affordable and accessible healthcare to the public despite the escalating cost of medical supplies. This resolve received a boost today with the donation of essential medical items by the Oke Creative Future Foundation to the hospital’s Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

Receiving the team, Dr. Andrew Obi, Acting Head of the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, expressed appreciation for the foundation’s generosity and thoughtfulness, assuring that the items would be maximally utilized for patient care.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Stanley Okugbo, highlighted UBTH’s ongoing mission to subsidize healthcare services, particularly preventive care such as routine health checks. He noted that inflation and the rising cost of medical consumables have created significant challenges, but stressed that the hospital remains steadfast in cushioning the burden on patients.

Dr. Okugbo further described the donation from the Oke Creative Future Foundation as both timely and impactful, aligning directly with UBTH’s vision of expanding access to quality healthcare, especially for underserved populations. He commended the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. (Mrs.) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, whose visionary stewardship continues to drive the hospital’s focus on excellence and patient-centered service delivery despite prevailing economic constraints. He also lauded the CDC staff for their unwavering commitment to public health interventions.

The donated items include: 4 cartons of V. Speculum (400 pieces), 2 packs of syringes, 1 electronic BP monitor, test strips, and other some medical consumables.
