MEET THE FACULTY




Professor C.E. Omuemu

Professor Casimir E. Omuemu is a Professor of Medicine and a Consultant Physician in
Gastroenterology. He is presently the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee Director of
Clinical Services and Training in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
He obtained his Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (WACP) in 2001.
He is a member of American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and also a member of the Executive Council of the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in
Nigeria (SOGHIN)




Prof. Obehi Akoria (MB, BS-Benin ; FMCP-Nig; MPH-Liverpool ; Cert. Geriatrics- NY)

Prof. Obehi Akoria is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. She specialized in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics and obtained additional certification in Geriatrics from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, United States of America. She leads the Geriatrics Team in University of Benin Teaching Hospital.




Prof. Omokhoa Adeleye
(MBBS, PGD, MHPM, MPH, MSc, MITD, FNIM, FIHIMN, FWACP)

Prof. Adeleye is a professor and consultant in Public Health and Community Medicine in the School of Medicine, University of Benin, and University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Nigeria.
He is an alumnus of the West African Bioethics Training Program, Ibadan, Nigeria and currently Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Research & Ethics) in UBTH.




Dr. Olufemi Olowookere MBChB, FWACP, DRH (Liverpool), DGM(SA), MNIM

Dr. Olowookere is a consultant family physician and Geriatrician at the University College Hospital in Nigeria. He is currently the Director, Chief Tony Anenih Geriatric Centre, University College Hospital. He is a Fellow of, and examiner with the West African College of Physicians (Family Medicine) and Associate Lecturer, University of Ibadan. He is a member, Geriatric Association of Nigeria and African Research Network on Ageing. He is also a chartered member of the Nigerian Institute of Management.




Dr Lawrence Adebusoye MBBS, FMCP, FWACP, DGM (SA)

Dr. Adebusoye is a family physician and geriatrician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He is a Fellow of, and examiner to both the National and West African Postgraduate Medical Colleges.
He was the first Director in Chief Tony Anenih Geriatric centre, UCH.
Dr. Adebusoye is a member of the Oxford Institute of Aging, African Research Network on Aging, African Gerontology Society (AGES) and National Institute of Management of Nigeria (NIM).




Dr. Benson Okwara (MB, BS, FMCP)

Dr. Okwara is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and a Senior Hospital Consultant in the Dermatology/Venereology Unit of UBTH. He also oversees the adult HIV clinic in the hospital, providing care to persons living with HIV, persons who have diseases of the skin/skin appendages in addition, to treatment of STIs.




Dr Adeagbo Osundina (M.B.B.S; FWACP)

Dr. Osundina is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and a consultant psychiatrist at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Benin city. His area of specialty is psycho-geriatrics.




Professor Andrew Efosa Edo (MB, BS; FMCP, FACE)

Prof. Edo is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Benin and a Consultant Endocrinologist at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Endocrinologists. He has published over 40 journal articles. His research interests include diabetes and nutrition.




Dr. Abimbola Opadeyi (MB, BS; FMCP, FWACP, PhD)

Dr. Opadeyi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Benin, Nigeria.
She is a Consultant Physician/Clinical Pharmacologist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and currently heads the South-South NAFDAC Zonal Pharmacovigilance Centre domiciled in UBTH.
She co-supervises the Drugs and Poison Information Centre in UBTH.




Dr. Stephen Ayinboumwan (MB, BS; FMCP)

Dr. Ayinbuomwan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Benin, Nigeria and also a Consultant Physician/Clinical Pharmacologist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin-City, Nigeria. He co-supervises the Drugs, Poison Information and Pharmacovigilance Centre in UBTH.




Dr. (Mrs.) Caroline O. Olumese (B.Pharm. PharmD, FPC Pharm., NIM, FCIA)

Dr. Olumese is presently the Head of Pharmacy Department, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City.
She is also Fellow of the West African College of Pharmacists, Fellow Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and Associate Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management.
She has mentored, taught, and nurtured several undergraduate/postgraduate students.




Dr. Franklyn C. Osian (MBBS)

Dr. Franklyn C. Osian is a registrar in Internal Medicine, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.
During his rotation in Geriatrics, his research focused a retrospective analysis of in-patient morbidity patterns using the ICD 10-CM coding system.
He is committed to improving health and wellbeing through innovative research and best clinical practices.




Lady Eunice Amaechi Osian
(FWACN, MNIM, RN, RM, FPN, DNAM, PHN, BNSc, MSc.)

Eunice Amaechi Osian has worked in several capacities in clinical nursing since 1985.
She is currently the Head of Nursing Services in University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.
A bastion of best practices in Nursing, Lady Eunice Osian is a champion of ethical nursing practice and inter-disciplinary harmony in her various spheres of influence.

Osaigbovo is an IT Personnel who has worked in various capacities of the profession; (Network, Database, Server & Infrastructure Administration and most importantly a Security Specialist) with over 10years of experience.
Osaigbovo has been in the Healthcare sector for over 8years and is very vast in applying information technology in healthcare delivery and management. He joined the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in 2017 as the current Head of the hospital’s ICT Unit is tasked with the lead role in Hospital management’s bid to computerize and enhance service delivery.




Kubeyinje Oluwaseun Susan (Mrs) Bachelor of Physiotherapy (UNILAG), MSc(Ed) Exercise Physiology(UNIBEN)

Mrs Kubeyinje is a clinical physiotherapist who has practiced for 15 years, 5 of which has been in Geriatrics. She’s an assistant director of physiotherapy who is presently the head of the geriatrics unit of the department of Physiotherapy, UBTH.
She is also part of the geriatrics team in UBTH dedicated to providing quality healthcare to older adults in order to improve their quality of life.




Eunice O. Ugorji (Mrs.)

Eunice O. Ugorji (Mrs.) is an Assistant Director, Department of Nursing Services, University Of Benin Teaching Hospital.
She holds a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree & was trained in Geriatrcs in 2014. She is currently the nurse manager in the Geriatrics Unit where she has worked in the last five years.




Dr. Temabor Omene (MB, BS)

Temabor is a graduate of Delta State University, Abraka. She worked briefly at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City, before joining the Geriatrics team as a medical officer in UBTH in 2017. She is passionate about providing holistic, patient-centred care and has vast experience with anchoring family conferences.




Dr. Obtay Nnache (MB, BS)

Obtay holds an MB.BS degree from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.
She is currently a registrar in the Department of Internal Medicine, UBTH. An advocate of holistic care and comprehensive geriatric assessments, Dr. Nnacheta is passionate about avoiding negative outcomes of prolonged hospitalisation in the elderly.




Dr Ifeoma Toyin Ekwere (MBBS, PGDA, FMCS, FWCS, FICS, MSc)

Dr. Ekwere is a senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Nigeria. An Executive Council member of the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists, she is a trained intensivist, with a diploma in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia/Intensive care from the Edith Wolfson Hospital in Israel.
Her research is focused on pain medicine, anaesthesia and intensive care. She has scientific publications in various peer-reviewed medical journals and has supervised many postgraduate dissertations.




Dr. Ogie Tada Ehondor (MBBS, FMCP-Nig)

Tada Ehondor is a lecturer in the University of Benin School of Medicine and Consultant Physician in Pulmonology in University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
He is a member of the Nigerian Thoracic Society (NTS), American Thoracic Society (ATS) and European Respiratory Society(ERS).




Mrs. Deborah Imokhai (RN, RM, Cert. Geriatrics)

Deborah Imokhai is a Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Ward Manager in the Geriatrics Unit of University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she has worked since 2014. She is also a member of the Quality Improvement Team in the Unit.




Mrs. Doris Edah (RN, RM, Cert. Geriatrics)

Doris Edah is a Senior Nursing Officer in the Geriatrics Unit, UBTH, where she has worked since March 2014. Prior to this she worked in the surgical unit of the hospital.




Mrs. Helen Ebome (RN, RM, Cert. Geriatrics)

Mrs. Ebome is a Senior Nursing Officer in UBTH. With a background in Family Planning, she joined the Geriatrics Unit in March 2014.




Mrs. Sophia Nwaka (RN, RM, RPHN, Cert. Geriatrics)

Sophia qualified as a registered nurse eighteen years ago. She has worked in a variety of settings including the Stroke Unit, Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit and she is currently a Senior Nursing Officer in the Geriatrics Unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she has worked since 2014.




Mrs. Margaret Uwagboe (RN, RM, Cert. Geriatrics)

Margaret is a Nursing Officer and loves caring for the elderly so much that she calls it a “ministry”!
According to her: “working as a geriatrics nurse in UBTH is often very gratifying… It is rewarding personally, knowing that the ageing process affects everyone differently”.




Dr. V. Abah MB.BS. (Benin), MHPM. FWACP(FM)

Dr. Vivian Abah is a Consultant Family Physician and Resident Trainer (Middle East Respiratory Institute Trainer for Asthma) whose areas of interest and research are: Family Dynamics and Health; Geriatrics; Adolescent Medicine; Mental Health in primary care; Respiratory medicine in primary care; Quality of Care.




Dr. Francis Odiase. (FMCP)

Dr Odiase is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (Faculty of Internal Medicine). He is a neurologist in the Department of Medicine, University of Benin Teaching Hospital.




Dr. Mary Izegbua Agun (MBBS, FWACP)

Dr. Mary Agun is a consultant rheumatologist in the Department of Medicine, University of Benin Teaching Hospital. She works closely with the Geriatrics team, providing specialized care for older persons with muscle, joint and related diseases.




Mrs. Josephine N. Anenih Esq. (BA, BL, LLB, Dip-Theology, MNI, FNIM)

Mrs. Josephine Anenih founded the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation and is Chair of the Board of Trustees. She is also a member of the Board of Dementia Care Society of Nigeria, Member of the National Older Persons Caregivers Coalition, Member of the Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance of Nigeria, Member of Ponseti Clubfoot Foundation and Trustee of Ego Bekee Cancer Foundation.
She chairs the Women Forum of African Bar Association.




Mrs. Gift Rita Oyebode RN, RM, BSc. (Ed) Health Education, Cert. Geriatrics

Gift Oyebode is a registered nurse midwife. She is also a trained geriatric nurse with 5 years’ experience in the care of the elderly, working in the Geriatrics Unit of University of Benin Teaching Hospital since its inception.




Ms. Jennifer Osayuki Aibuedefe (RN, RM; Cert. Geriatrics)

Jennifer Osayuki is a Registered Nurse / Midwife with 8 years of experience providing quality nursing care to a wide variety of patients. She has worked in the geriatrics unit since 2014.




Dr. Eleyinde Temitayo

Dr. Eleyinde Temitayo is an occupational therapist with about 5 years of experience in clinical practice and occupational therapy education. He has pioneered many strategic developments and contributed to occupational therapy scholarship both at national and international levels. He is currently the Head of occupational therapy Department in UBTH.
