Today, the Department of Nursing Services, UBTH hosted a one-day capacity-building workshop on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Best Practices in Environmental Cleaning and Waste Management. The session which was delivered by the Chair, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Dr Esohe Ogboghodo, aimed at strengthening institutional adherence to global IPC standards.
Given the persistent challenge of high staff turnover and the continual onboarding of new personnel, periodic workshops are essential to sustain a culture of effective cleaning, disinfection, and waste management. Such efforts are essential in ensuring patient safety, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and maintaining the hospital’s commitment to quality service delivery.
The workshop recorded an impressive attendance of over 300 participants. These included the nursing leadership and cadre, the Head of Stores and her team, representatives from the Environmental Health Unit, as well as cleaning staff, porters, and their supervisors.
The collective presence of these key stakeholders reflects a shared commitment to collaborative IPC practice and institutional excellence.
