The Cardiology Unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital today joined the rest of the World to mark this years’ World Hypertension Day with the theme ” Measure Your Blood Pressure, Control it, Live Longer”.
Activities carried out to mark the days’ event included health enlightenment campaigns both within the hospital and media stations, free consultations and checking of blood pressure.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. D.E. Obaseki flagged off the programme and thereafter led other Management members to check their blood pressures. Other members of staff and the general public took turns to check their BP and consult with the doctors.
A total of 306 people were checked and 69 new hypertensive patients (people who never knew they were hypertensive) were detected and referred to the Clinic for expert care.
The high point of the event was the dispensing of free hypertensive drugs to patients who were in attendance.
